As I mentioned this morning, I wanted to post some side by sides so that I could see how far I have come.
The picture on the left was from November 2008 before I even started my weight loss journey. I am not sure how much I weighed there, but I would guess somewhere between 210 and 220.
The picture in the middle was from July 2011. This was shortly after I started my weight loss. My beginning weight was 236, I would guess I was about 230 in this picture.
The picture from the right is from today, February 25, 2013. My weight there is 155.2. I wore the same sweater as in the first picture to illustrate the transformation my body has made.
When I started this journey back in July 2011, I arbitrarily set a goal weight of 135 as I thought that would be a healthy weight for my height at 5’5”. I have kept it as my ultimate goal, but as I have said before, if I don’t get there I won’t be terribly upset. Just looking at these pictures side by side, I can see how far I have come and I won’t go back there.
I used to always have excuses and reasons why I wasn’t losing weight, in addition to denial (I thought I wasn’t that big - which clearly I was wrong). But, on July 11, 2011, some switch was flipped in me and I realized that age, job, kids, etc. weren’t good enough excuses - if you want something hard enough you will work for them and figure out how to get it done. Pure drive, mixed with some Tumblr inspiration, has brought me from where I was to where I am today.
More than the change that you can see, I am proud of the fact that I am setting a proper example for my kids as far as the importance of a healthy, active, lifestyle. I am also proud of the fact that I was able to transform myself from someone who could never run for 30 seconds into someone who is training for a marathon. If and when I cross that finish line on May 12, 2013 will be the most proud moment of my life (other than the birth of my kids, of course). It will prove to me that everything is possible if you set your mind to it.
